Utilising by-products: Mills to use bagasse to generate power
Manufacturing and commissioning of a 140 ton per hour high pressure and high temperature bagasse-fired steam boiler.
ISLAMABAD:
The Heavy Mechanical Complex (HMC) and JDW Sugar Mills have signed a contract for the manufacturing, supply, erection and commissioning of a 140 ton per hour high pressure and high temperature bagasse-fired steam boiler. By-products from JDW Sugar Mills’ sugarcane plantations will be used as fuel to heat water in the boiler. The steam produced will power turbines that will help in generating electricity. According to a press release issued here on Thursday, this state-of-the-art high pressure membrane wall furnace boiler, jointly designed by Avant Garde and HMC, will be installed at JDW Sugar Mills District Ghotki, Sindh, for their 24 megawatt Cogeneration Power Plant. A cogeneration plant produces electricity, while also utilising the heat generated in the process towards useful ends. The JDW Sugar Group is planning to install similar boilers in other mills for provision of surplus electricity to the national grid.
