Corruption: Ex-CCB chairman remanded

GUJRAT:


Former Gujrat citizens community board chairman Kifayat Ullah arrested on Wednesday on corruption charges was on Thursday remanded in  Anti-Corruption Establishment’s custody for three days.


Meanwhile, six Gujrat tehsil municipal authority officials, also accused of embezzling funds from development schemes, have also been remanded to the ACE City Circle officials.

These officials were arrested on Tuesday after attending the hearing of an inquiry against them. The investigations found them responsible for embezzlement of up to Rs22.5 million in projects initiated during the previous government, including projects worth Rs6.8 million identified by the CCB. The suspects had returned Rs1.5 million of the allegedly embezzled funds after a department inquiry was initiated against them on June 8. The matter was referred to the ACE Gujranwala region on June 23.
