Exam invigilators: PHC displeased with non-compliance

PESHAWAR: The Peshawar High Court (PHC) has expressed deep concern over non-compliance of its verdicts.

In 2009, it had issued orders that invigilators who had performed their duties in examination halls for two consecutive years could not perform or the following four years.

During the hearing of a petition on Tuesday, a division bench, headed by PHC Chief Justice (CJ) Dost Muhammad Khan, learnt certain invigilators were continuing to perform their duties.

The writ petition had been filed by Sajid Pervaz who sought to overturn Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (K-P) Public Service Commission’s (PSC) verdict barring him from appearing in public service examinations till 2014.

The bench was informed that Pervaz appeared in PSC sociology and English papers this year at a hall identified for him by the commission. Another hall, however, was identified for him for the PSC journalism paper he was to appear in later.

PSC alleges that while submitting his journalism paper to the invigilator, he resubmitted the answer sheets for the sociology and English papers under the cover of extra sheets.

While the application itself was dismissed by the bench,  CJ came down hard on university chancellors and education board chairpersons for the violation of orders.

“Court judgments are being continuously violated and are treated like jokes,” he remarked. Noting that it seemed like a mafia was involved in assigning examination hall duties, CJ Khan
said “we are being compelled to take the matter into our own hands.”
