FAISALABAD:

A man was assaulted on Monday by his wife over a divorce notice he had served on her, said an FIR registered with Mamu Kanjan police.

Complainant Muhammad Aslam also accused his wife Shamshad Bibi, sons Muhammad Arshad and Muhammad Afzal and son-in-law Shoaib Ahmed of vandalising his general store and stealing goods. He said he was dragged out of the shop and beaten up in the street. He said some passers-by intervened and saved him from the assailants.

The FIR said the attack had followed a divorce notice Aslam had sent to Shamshad Bibi. It said regular quarrels between the couple and ill-treatment by his wife had led the complainant to seek a divorce. “I was considering divorcing her for several months. I finally served a notice on her after she recently abused me in front of the customers at my shop,” Aslam said.

Police said they had raided the house of the suspects but no one was found there. The FIR has been registered under Sections 380 (theft), 448 (trespass), 511 (crimes punishable by life imprisonmen), 148 and 149 (rioting).
