Tannery Zone will receive three million gallons of water per day.

KARACHI:
Governor of Sindh Dr Ishratul Ibad Khan has released an amount of Rs38.4 million for the laying of an exclusive water pipeline to the Tannery Zone in the Korangi Industrial Area (KIA), in order to provide water to export-oriented leather industries. The PC-I of the project has already been prepared by the Karachi Water and Sewerage Board (KWSB) and the contract for the project has been awarded to a local firm, following the tendering process. After the completion of project, the Tannery Zone will receive three million gallons of water per day.  KWSB Managing Director Misbah Uddin had informed the governor about a shortage of funds for laying a separate pipeline for the Tannery Zone. The governor has now approved the cost of the project from his special funds. Over 200 leather industries are located in the Tannery Zone, and the area contributes to over 40% of Pakistan’s total leather production, according to the Pakistan Tanners Association.
