As much as Rs348 million will be spent on holding sports competitions in 4,200 areas of Bahawalpur division under the Punjab Youth Sports Festival, a meeting to review arrangements for the festival was told on Saturday.
The meeting was attended by Bahawalpur Commissioner Muhammad Khan Khichi, Advisor to the Chief Minister Zakir Hussain, Sports Secretary Haroon Ahmad, Members of National Assembly Mian Balighur Rehman and Saud Majeed, Task Force Chairman Sami Ullah Chaudhry, Bahawalpur district coordination officer Dr Naeem Rauf.
Commissioner Khichi asked the officials to encourage residents of villages to participate in these competitions. He said participation from rural areas should be comparable to participation from cities.
The meeting was told that competitions would be held at village, union council, tehsil, and district levels. Competitions in nine games would be held at the village level, in 57 at the union council level, in 91 at the tehsil level and in 120 at district level.
In sum, there will be 4,500 competitions in various sports in Bahawalpur division (including Bahawalpur, Rahim Yar Khan and Bahawalnagar districts).
Of the Rs348 million allocated for the festival in Bahawalpur, up to Rs50 million will be spent on arranging competitions at the district level and Rs60 million at the tehsil level (in 15 tehsils) and Rs78.4 million at the union council level (in 347 UCs) and the rest at the village level.
Sports Secretary Haroon Ahmad said each tehsil and district administration would spend two per cent of their budgets on the festival. He said the rest of the funds would be provided by the provincial government.
Talking to The Express Tribune, DCO Dr Rauf said arrangements for the festival were almost complete.
A July 30 deadline has been set for completion of arrangements.

Kindly Provide the Participants with sports gear as well. Sports Gear is expensive and many people cannot afford to have it and it will effect their performance in the end. I have seen that in villages many people play football with bare feet since they cannot afford to buy football shoes and same is the case with other sports as well .
