Tando Allahyar gets Rs2.5b for development

HYDERABAD:

Sindh Chief Minister Qaim Ali Shah announced a sum of Rs2.5 billion for development in Tando Allahyar district while presiding over the meeting of the provincial cabinet on Saturday. 

Though the Pakistan Peoples Party ministers including, Pir Mazharul Haq, Agha Siraj Durrani, Ayaz Soomro, Murad Ali Shah, Sharjeel Memon, Jam Saifullah Dharejo, Muzaffar Shujra, Jam Mehtab Dahar, Mukesh Chawla, Mohan Lal Kohistani and Syed Ali Nawaz Shah Rizvi, were there but no provincial minister of Muttahida Qaumi Movement, Awami National Party and Pakistan Muslim League-Functional was present.

Tando Allahyar is an agricultural district where mango, sugarcane, wheat, cotton and onion are cultivated. Trade and agriculture representatives who attended the meeting complained of water shortage affecting the summer crop. They also demanded that health, education, infrastructure facilities, and law and order be improved in the district.

To this the chief minister assured the representatives more water will be supplied via the Naseer Canal for irrigation. He also announced that the canal will be remodeled to increase its capacity and directed the irrigation secretary, Babur Effendi, to prepare the plan.

Shah added that a separate project of lining of the distributaries and watercourses will be funded by the federal government.

Responding to complaints about the growing rate of crime, the chief minister ordered the home department to set up seven new police stations in the district. Currently, there are only five police station in all of Tando Allahyar district. They are in Jhando Mari, Chambarh, Massan, Pyaro Lund areas and Tando Allahyar city itself.

The district does not have a university. However, the education minister, Pir Mazharul Haq, announced that two degree colleges for boys and girls will be built this year.
