PANNU AQIL: The case of a murder that happened four years ago was resolved by a jirga under the supervision of Sindh’s former minister Dr Ibrahim Jatoi and Sukkur DIG Amir Shaikh.

The elders imposed a Rs2.3 million fine on former union council nazim of Hingori, Zulfiqar Jatoi, for killing Shoaib Jatoi. The decision was accepted by both sides. Zulfiqar’s brother, Ustad Sikandar Jatoi, paid Rs0.9 million on the spot after the decision was made and said that the remaining amount would be handed over within a week.

Zulfiqar is the son of well-known Primary Teachers Association’s leader Abdul Rahim Azad Jatoi. His family tried to persuade Shoaib’s family to settles the issue amicably but failed to do so. The jirga was held on the intervention of DIG Shaikh, who was reportedly one of Azad Jatoi’s students. Zulfiqar has spent almost two years in Sukkur jail and is currently on bail.
