Rescheduling: New CEC’s oath-taking ceremony delayed

ISLAMABAD:

The Supreme Court announced on Thursday that Justice (retd) Fakhruddin G Ebrahim will be sworn in as chief election commissioner on July 23, three days later than scheduled. The oath-taking ceremony will take place at the Supreme Court building in the federal capital, the court said in a statement.

“Earlier, the Election Commission had officially communicated its preference to have Justice (retd) Fakhruddin G Ebrahim be administered the office of the CEC on July 20, which was duly approved by the chief justice of Pakistan,” said the court’s press release. “However, subsequently, on July 18, CEC Justice (retd) Ebrahim requested through a letter addressed to the registrar of the Supreme Court that his oath-taking ceremony should be rescheduled on July 23 or any other date in the week, as per the convenience  of the chief justice of Pakistan,” it read.

In accordance with the new election commissioner’s request, the chief justice rescheduled the oath-taking ceremony to Monday at 9.00 am.
