Nawaz soon to land in jail or Jeddah: Sharjeel
Sindh information minister Sharjeel Inam Memon said on Wednesday that Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry was involved in getting his son appointed on deputation in four departments.
He also lashed out at former premier Nawaz Sharif, saying that soon he will either be ‘in jail or in Jeddah’ as corruption cases against him have been reopened.
Addressing a gathering organised to honour newly elected office bearers of the Pakistan Association of Press Photographers (PAPP) at the office of the Karachi Union of Journalists, Memon said that Chief Justice Chaudhry was involved in his son’s appointments. He said that if president can be criticised, there was no reason someone else should not be.
The minister said that it was unprecedented that judges should get media coverage for hours, and that institutions set up in the name of accountability and justice were unable to raise a finger at the people who were responsible for the present situation. ‘Why is suo motu action not taken against the people who threw shoes on judges in Faisalabad or who committed violence against journalists in Punjab?” Memon asked.
Continuing his diatribe, the minister said that ‘so-called anchorpersons consider themselves intellectuals and do not allow their guests to present the government’s point of view at all.
He added that his party, Pakistan Peoples Party, was working with coalition partner Muttahida Qaumi Movement on a law for local bodies.
