Trained by Shahid Babar Pehlwan, these young sportsmen practice wrestling daily just like their fathers and other elders.
A famous sport in Punjab, Pehlwani is a local form of wrestling played in many western countries.
Known as the Sher-e-Punjab, the trainer himself has participated in many international events and has high hopes for all the little pehlwans he has been training.
However, Babar thinks these pehlwans in the making cannot do much without government support and has urged it to ensure their training abroad.

This will never be an OLYMPICS sport. I guess it is better if we utilise the talent for other sports. The main reason why we lack in Olympics is because of the mindset. We never think of starting a career for our children at age of six. If we have brought a change then its better if these youngsters can get involved in others sports also.
Malnourished Pehlwans are no match for wrestlers from Iran, Turkey and the west.
Pehlwani with loin clothes is a ancient Hindu tradition which has a long history in the sub continent. Good to see it being revived by Mr.Shahid Babarji. Keep up the good work.
Pehlwani has got lots of good things. It is a historical tradition which has links with the local traditions. We should follow such type of sports which are entrenched into our culture and tradition.
I think these children should be introduced to UFC ( Ultimate Fighting Championships) , Taek Kondo and Boxing as well to have a more global exposure. I think with Good training these guys could make their impressive mark everywhere. The government should sanction atleast dedicated ring for International Matches in Gujranwala as without commercial success this will remain a personal hobby rather than a Professional career.
