‘Unwanted tenant’: APML’s city president booked for theft

Police say he is wrongly implicated, but the case was apparently not politically motivated.

ISLAMABAD:

The city president of the All Pakistan Muslim League (APML), Dr Muhammad Amjad, was booked for stealing valuables from a house on Tuesday. Initial investigations, however, indicated that a theft might not have taken place, police said. 

The Aabpara Police said they were investigating to ascertain facts before making an arrest. A police official, asking not to be named, said that the APML president was wrongly implicated, but the case was apparently not politically motivated.

The officer said the complainant was a man named Raja Safdar, who used to be friends with the APML president. Dr Amjad had sublet a house to him in Sector G-6/2, which he had earlier rented from a widow some five years ago. For the last four years, Safdar had not been paying rent nor was he willing to vacate the house despite repeated reminders.

Earlier this month, Dr Amjad returned the rent agreement to the widow after locking the house from the outside while Safdar was away.

The APML Islamabad president’s men removed Safdar’s furniture and other valuables from the house and put them in a neighbouring house. “This stuff was handed over to the police when they visited the house after registration of a case,” said the official.

However, Aabpara police said they were investigating the case and had taken the valuables into possession.
