Snooker: Shock defeat for Selby

Jamie Burnett caused the shock of the tournament by beating world number one Mark Selby 5-3 in the first round of the 2012 Australian Open, according to the BBC. China’s Ding Junhui defeated Alan McManus 5-0, while Barry Hawkins and Martin Gould also progressed. It was the second surprise result of the tournament after Matthew Selt beat defending champion Stuart Bingham. Burnett, who is ranked 37 in the world, will play Marco Fu in the next round. Fu had earlier ousted Joe Perry 5-1.
