The present government has transferred a director general of the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) for the ninth time – and the slot now lies vacant.
Fayyaz Ahmed Leghari was transferred after only 45 days of assuming charge. He has been made the chief of Sindh’s police.
The transfer is the tip of the iceberg, sources familiar with the development told The Express Tribune. In an impending move, the federal government is likely to shakeup other departments too in a massive bureaucratic shuffle, including the top offices of the Intelligence Bureau (IB), National Police Academy (NPA), and National Police Foundation (NPF).
The names of Zafar Abbas Lak, the IG Motorway and National Highway (MP&NH), DG IB Aftab Sultan, IG Punjab Haji Habibur Rehman are being considered for the DG FIA post.
Three officers of Police Service of Pakistan (PSP) including Zahid Mehmood (BPS-22), Saud Mirza (BPS-21), Rafiq Hassan Butt (BPS-21), are also in the run.
AIG Sindh Akhtar Gorchani is likely to be appointed DG IB, replacing Aftab Sultan, sources said.
The Managing Director of NPF Humayun Raza Shafi (BPS-22) and Commandant of NPA Syed Shabir Ahmed (BPS-22) are to retire in the coming month after reaching the age of 60 years.
