Recruitment policy: Changes not going down well with PPP leaders?

Education minister had publicly objected to handing over powers to deputy commissioners.

The proposed changes in the recruitment process for government posts have ruffled quite a few feathers. More and more disagreements among the Pakistan Peoples Party’s (PPP) provincial leaders over the proposal are coming out.

Earlier, Sindh Education Minister Pir Mazharul Haq had publicly objected to handing over the recruitment authority to the committees under the deputy commissioners. Sindh Chief Minister Qaim Ali Shah supports the change, however.

Now, Haji Ameen Lakho, the Tando Mohammad Khan district president of the PPP, has demanded the removal of Haq for comparing the process with the one prevalent during former president Pervez Musharraf’s regime.

“By comparing the democratic government with a dictatorship, he [Haq] has betrayed the struggles and the martyrdoms of Bhuttos,” he said at a press conference on Saturday.

Lakho, a former MPA, has been heading the party’s district body for about two decades. He is also a close associate of federal minister Naveed Qamar.

“Pir Mazhar has violated party discipline by likening Qaim Ali Shah with the authoritarian ruler [Musharraf],” he contended.
He also appealed to the chief minister to immediately remove Haq from his post to put off others from disregarding party discipline.
