‘Violation of sanctity’: IHC asks secretary to respond to plea

ISLAMABAD: The Islamabad High Court (IHC) on Friday sought comments from the secretary of information and religious affairs as well as other officials on a plea, seeking to restrain the commercial use of newspapers and magazines, containing verses of the Holy Quran as well as traditions of the Holy Prophet Muhammad (PBUH).

A single-member bench comprising Justice Riaz Ahmed Khan resumed hearing of the petition. During the course of the hearing, the counsel for the petitioner apprised the bench that most of the mainstream newspapers were printing verses of the Holy Quran on their front pages, and these papers were later disposed of in an inappropriate manner.
