The decision was announced at an emergency press conference by the Association at the doctor’s hostel at Services Hospital. YDA Punjab spokesperson Dr Nasir Bokhari said that the decision had been taken after the Lahore High Court asked YDA Punjab to resume duties at 9am on July 7, 2012 (Saturday).
“If we save just one life in the whole night we will consider it our success,” he claimed.
However, he maintained that the YDA strikes for indoor and out patient services will continue. They hoped that the court would help them release their colleagues currently detained, charged under Section 302 of the CrPC.
“We are thankful to the LHC for listening to our grievances and we will continue our struggle for Service Structure,” he hoped.
YDA Punjab President Dr Hamid Butt and other office bearers were also present at the occasion.
Earlier, Lahore High Court (LHC), while hearing the case pertaining to the young doctors’ strike, ordered that all emergency wards at Punjab’s public hospitals be made operational from 9am tomorrow, Express News reported on Friday.
Young Doctors Association (YDA) and Pakistan Medical Association (PMA) representatives appeared before the court, and the order was passed after reaching a consensus on the issue. Spokesperson YDA assured the court that the doctors will comply with the orders.
Upon the court's summoning of the YDA president and general secretary, the YDA representatives stated that the officials could not come as they could not risk getting arrested.
Hearing this, the court issued an order stating that no official was to be arrested till 2pm.
Justice Aijazul Hasan, in his remarks said, “The court will find a solution to this problem according to the law, the government should not try to find a solution through third degree methods.”
The court was further told that the four doctors who are still in police custody were not arrested on the orders of the Punjab government but were arrested on an application filed by a private applicant.
The hearing has been adjourned till 10am tomorrow (Saturday).
Earlier, Punjab Law Minister Rana Sanaullah had claimed that the YDA had called off its strike after a meeting, which was held with senior doctors. However, the YDA denied Sanaullah's statements claiming they would only resume their duties after all detained doctors were released and all charges were dropped against them.

Their Lordships did not bother when lawyers went on boycotting all forms of courts in protest of removal of CJP.
What is service structure? Suppose,A DMG officer gets grade 17 after CSS but he automatically gets promotion after spending certain number of years and he retires in grade 22..Same is the case in army..But u 'll never see a doctor touching even grade 21..A doctor is appointed in grade 17 and he gets grade18 after 20 yrs and sometimes even after 25 yrs...why the doctors r being sidelined and pushed against the wall? Why they r denied of their due rights?why is there such a hypocratic& discriminative behavior against med profession? Why don't doctors get timescale promotion? We solute YDA PUNJAB 4 raising its voice (1st ever) in History 4 our own legal right..Long live YDA

Three-fold increase in judges' salaries
The provincial govt announced a three-fold increase in the salaries of the judges here on Monday while unveiling its budget. At present, more than 800 judicial officers are working in 35 districts of Punjab as Session Judges, Additional Sessions Judges, Senior Civil Judges and Civil Judges.
These judicial officers will be hugely benefited from this initiative, a brainchild of Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif. He spelled out his policies even before assuming the office of Chief Minister, declaring the judiciary and the education as his priority areas.
Currently, District and Sessions Judges basic salaries are Rs 28,000 per month that has been increased to Rs 120,000 while Additional District and Sessions judges basic pay scale is Rs 19,000 that would go to Rs 76,000.
Is that why the judges have a soft corner for the shareef???
Why etribune rejected the earlier comment, only God knows....
No patient dies in OPD. Even in normal days OPD's function is not to provide treatment but to filter patients and refer them to the respective departments.
OPD was closed but patients were still being provided referral services through emergency dept.
UNTIL
Police raided and took over all hospitals and arrested doctors right from emergency depts and wards and prevented them from performing their duties.
Currently there is Medical Martial Law in Punjab. I wonder where democracy is now?
What musharraf did to Big brother Nawaz (thrown in jail and asked to sign a document)....little brother Shehbaz had done the same with doctors protesting to get a system of merit put in place (thrown in jail and asked to sign apology documents).
So they've proved themselves that the champions of democracy aren't any different from dictators. Essentially they're different eggs in the same basket.
Courts cant coerce people to work against their wills... that would be against the human rights. plus the drs are fighting for their just demands and drs like any labor union are entitled to press the govt to accept their demands through protests and strikes. the courts should have asked and acted against the Punjab govt for not acting on the previous order of court to give a service structure and also for the deaths and sufferings due to the stubbornness of the govt.. the deaths occurred when the police acted against the doctors prompting them to close the emergencies and Punjab govt is responsible for these deaths... but i don't know why courts are so soft when the question is about the SHAREEF brothers!!!
@Afzaal khan, yes disappointed with court. Seems like our judges are fond of making popular decisions.
Why court is not ordering the doctors to go back to work when provincial govt has passed essential services act. This strike is illegal they can challenge it in the court but meanwhile they should be working and court should make them work while it hears the case.
the irony is that instead of listening the grievances of the YDA govt. is adopting 3rd degree method on doctors and the court has to instruct the Govt.. to restrain such method.. But finally a solution is visible . thanks to the intervention of the court.
till 2pm? what rot! the court should've given a proper stay order!
So the order has been passed, come out in emergencies, indoors and courts. There is no justification for closing indoor / emergencies now.
