QUETTA: Hundreds of flood survivors suffering from water-borne diseases have been admitted to government-run hospitals in Sibi, Bolan and other districts.

The executive district officer (EDO) for health  in Sibi, Dr Abdul Jabbar, informed media that around 40 people suffering from water-borne diseases had been brought in to government- run hospitals.

“Majority of the patients are minors between the ages of two to eight years,” he said adding that the situation was under control.

EDO Bolan, Abdul Rehman Bugti said that there had been an outbreak of waterborne diseases in different parts of Bolan where the flood victims were taking shelter. “Seventy patients suffering from water-borne diseases have been admitted to government run hospitals in Bhag, Dhaddar and Mach,” he confirmed. However, he said that the affected were being provided with medical care and their condition was stable.

Doctors attending to the patients at different government hospitals said that the supply of medicine for this particular emergency was inadequate and social activists condemned the attitude of the secretary of health and the director-general (DG) health for their lack of concern towards the child patients suffering from these diseases.

The army has dispatched 12 medical teams and has established field hospitals in the flood affected regions.
