Lodhi dominates national chess event

Defending champion leads championship into its 5th round.

KARACHI: Defending champion Mehmood Lodhi proved his mettle, dominating the National Chess Championship into its fifth round as he defeated Raees Ansari on the third of the event underway at the Beach Luxury Hotel.

Lodhi, who now has five points, is unbeaten in the tournament and is followed by Railways’ Anwar Qureshi in second place with 4.5 points. Eight other players are still vying for third place in the event that features 80 players from four provinces and sports departments of the country.

Meanwhile, in the women’s championship, national champion Nida Siddique, Zenobia Wasif and Ghazala have secured two points apiece.
