Death of a student

Letter July 04, 2012
Our hostel seems more like a jungle as snakes, different species of lizards, dogs and cats inhabit it freely.

HYDERABAD: This is with reference to the news item “Student, bitten by a snake at LUMHS hostel, dies on Friday” (June 30). The news item states that the officials of the Liaquat University of Medical and Health Sciences (LUMHS) in Jamshoro “searched the hostel premises after the incident but did not find the reptile”. Another official is quoted as saying that “the rooms do not have enough space to allow a snake to enter”.

Being a student of the LUMHS, I can verify that it is just not possible that the officials did not find any reptile in our hostel. In fact, our hostel seems more like a jungle as snakes, different species of lizards, dogs and cats inhabit it freely. The students of LUMHS will protest the extreme negligence that was displayed by the LUMHS administration in the case of the unfortunate death of Rida Fatima, who died of snakebite in her hostel room.
