According to the report, General Allen during his recent meeting with Pakistan Army chief General Ashfaq Pervez Kayani, personally apologised over the incident.
The BBC Urdu, quoting a senior military official, said that General Kayani appreciated the apology, but declared it insufficient.
Kayani, according to the source, made it clear to General Allen that the issue was not between two armies, rather between the two governments, and its solution lay in those corridors.
The source added that the meeting between General Allen and General Kayani took place in the Foreign Office in the presence of other officers on the insistence of the latter. Generally the two Generals have held talks at the army headquarters in Rawalpindi.
The items discussed in the meeting covered the Nato supply routes and drone strikes. All matters discussed in those meetings would be put before the Cabinet's defence committee, which met in Islamabad on Tuesday.
The case of "friendly fire" had prompted Pakistan to close its borders for Nato supplies ferried through its territory into Afghanistan. Pakistan went on to conduct a policy review of its ties with the US, demanding that the US issue a high level apology over the incident, and end drone strikes before the routes would be reopened.
The US, on numerous occasions expressed regret over the incident, but did not offer a clear apology as demanded by Pakistan.

@Faraz: Yeah right and people like you have no comments of their own... you think that ther was no tension between Army and the government in the last 7 months than you really need to wake up.... If the governments decides to open that you cannot do anything... And Patriotism is some thign which people like you will never understand....its a waste of time to dicuss with people like you...
@BILAL:
excellent answer...
@Mirza:
Yeah right Mr.Mirza...it people like you who supported the corrupt DEMOCRACY in this country...Army is always bad..who cares if they give lives to save yours..AND GENERALS are sons GENERALS,if you are a General your son will automatically become a generals....but politcians work hard to earn there seat. And politicians have no family political backgroud.... The only problem is that THESE POLITICIANS are underpressure from Army to grab land and fill in their swiss accounts...or sell rental power.... You make me laugh...and cry at the same time...
@BILAL: LOL, while you were typing your religiously patriotic comment Pakistan was busy opening the NATO route. Mindless, blind patriotism serves nobody, come out of your illusion and stop worshiping the army. Mirza's comment is all common-sense which people like you can't see and are proven wrong time and again by the institutions you so patriotically defend, LOL.
Official or not, at least they apologized and have resumed aid. Does anyone know if the Taliban have apologized for beheading dozens of our captured soldiers, which goes against all laws of international warfare, not to mention human decency? Where's the outrage over that? I swear the stupidity and hypocrisy of the Pakistani people is beyond measure!
Will hafeez and his Difa-e-Pakistan gang protest this? Probably not since their handlers have told them to shut up. Good for Pakistan.
@BILAL: Very soon you Army and ISI is going to get exposed for Mumbai attacks as well as killing thousands of Balochistanis
It's funny how there are more Indians on this comment section than Pakistanis. I don't know if I feel flattered or suffocated.
@BILAL: At the time you wrote your comment, the opening of supply lines was already announced.SO there goes the 'master stroke'
A personal apology! Would that bring back Pakistan soldiers ? What a shame! What a sorry excuse of government and army we have!
@Jeffmahagaonvi: teach us a lesson...lol.... its just not possible,, my friend.. BELIEVE IT
@Khurram: Why has Difa-e-Pakistan suddenly disappeared from the scene? Where do you think? GHQ took care of the matters, as always ! This is Pakistan and its Ghairat !!!
@Mirza: You could not have put it better !
Was it a personal matter between ISAF commander and General Kayani?
Idiots like Mirza and others who criticize Pak Army are either fools or indians disguised as Pakistanis with muslim names. Pak Army and its leadership deserve all the praise and credit for having closed suppy route to NATO forces for 7 months to date and still ongoing. All those giving false perception that General Kiyani is putting up an act then they better put their heads for special examining at the nearest medical clinic. It is a masterstroke by Pak Army leadership to close supply routes to NATO forces from Pakistan cause sooner or later those 5000 containers full of weapons and 3500 Armoured vehicles were going to be used against Pakistan under pretext of lies but intelligence of Pak Army and ISI prevailed keeping view of the violation at salala checkpost. All indians and those pretending to be pakistanis like that mirza can just GET lost into their fantasy world. Supply routes will never open from Pakistan. This corrupt regime will soon be replaced by patriots. All fools in MOD and MOFA headed by PPP will be thrown out for trying to compromise on reopening NATO supply route. A9
What good is personal apology? The nation of USA must apologize to everyone in Pakistan. Death of Pakistani soldiers, no matter under what conditions, is a very grave matter that Pakistani nation cannot simply accept. Along with written apology and suitable financial payments to families, America needs to withdraw from the region and allow appropriate regime to be established in Afghanistan, at the very least, as compensation to Pakistan.
Why has Difa-e-Pakistan suddenly disappeared from the scene?
Big egos and name calling is not going to help. Let us start a Jihad against terrorists and their protectors in our country. Let us establish a liberal, secular democracy that does not hide the worst terrorists in our army bases. If that make me an Indian or US so be it. I would continue my jihad against the terrorists who have been killing our citizens and beheading them. Why does this make some Pakistanis so upset? Any logic or argument or pure hatred to suppress the debate? Who are the real enemy of Pakistan, those beheading our poor soldiers or those protecting our citizens from these brutal extremists?
i will believe it when they show video of the ISAF commander saying it!!
@Baby ka Husband: Tell me one thing that is working in the country that you are proud of.
@Baby ka Husband: Do you really think that the foreign policy being decided by the civilian govt??? It is not about degrading any institution, but the people must know who plays active role in it and who holds the responsibility for any eventuality...
@Mirza: On whose side you are? Seems more loyal than the king. 100% siding with the USA on each and every issue. A feat not accomplished by USA senators.
A trial baloon and a poor attempt to shift the blame on the civilian government. The army takes the decisions and the civilian governmnet is just a organization to collect aid , arms on behalf of the army.
@Mirza: You are an Indian voice always criticizing our Armed Forces, the Judiciary and everything else that works for the country. Anything that destroys our nation you applaud it. I guess you have nothing better to do.
Say it publicly! until they do we should keep the supply routes closed.
@Mirza: Generally, I subscribe to your views and assessments. However, I feel that this time the Army will come up with an excuse to accept whatever apology, in whatever form US offers, even imaginary or cooked up, but the Government shall say it is not sufficient and leave the NATO ground supply routes locked, at least for the rest of this year. I feel that the statement in this news is the Army's flying its weather balloon to gauge the public sentiment. The Army has moulded public sentiment in a way to serve its purpose. It could not achieve its purpose and is now trying to come out of the situation it has itself created.
Please accept his personal apology. What could we do if they try to teach us a lesson. We need peace and prosperity. Live with love - Let democracy work
Pakistan would have been better off participating in a joint investigation --- even if that meant acknowledging some fault in this incident --- you would have gotten the same apology/condolences and the families may have been compensated. Assigning immediate blame without even performing a thorough internal investigation lost you credibility - making outrageous accusations saying the American's intentional attacked an outpost because they were frustrated was outright foolish.
Why was it a 'personal apology'? Why cant they do it on national/international television? This isnt a clear apology either, the 'behind-closed-doors' policy doesnt work. Why cant the US offer a public apology!?
The NATO routes are open via air and would open via land soon. The generals are trying to put a brave face and shift the blame of opening the routes on the elected govt. Everybody knows who is the real power in Pakistan especially when it comes to the defense foreign policy matters. The Govt would do well to stay out of this army created fiasco. They made a big deal and overplayed the car and now they are in a bind.
Took them long enough!!
does this apology has any meaning ... a forced apology ?
Its to late to apologize.... to late...
Personal Sorry, Personal Affairs, Personal dealings, Personal agreements!
