ISLAMABAD:

The prime minister’s adviser on interior affairs, Rehman Malik, on Monday failed to present documents before the Supreme Court proving his renouncement of his British nationality.

Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry, headed a bench of three judges hearing the dual nationality case. Malik’s passport, made in the year 2008, was presented before the apex court bench.

His counsel, Anwar Mansoor Khan, informed the court that had Malik been a British national, he would not have been travelling on another passport.

Justice Khilji Arif Hussain asked Mansoor not to base his arguments on assumptions and present instead the required documents before the court.

Malik’s lawyer also plans on arguing about the legality of parliamentarians not being disqualified before the elections if they carry a dual nationality today (Tuesday).

HADI SAKEY | 11 years ago | Reply Dr Rehman Malik lied before the SC that he has renounced British Nationality. He should be punished for giving false statement before the SC. Now i understand why Zardari was so keen to get the Contempt law slipped through NA. The Bill is generally examined by the Qaima Committee before presentation in the House. All the procedures were bypassed. Still Rehman Malik is guilty of giving false statement before the SC. >
