Purchase of ambulances: LHC annuls govt-approved contract
LHC annulled a government contract approving the purchase of 112 ambulances from a Chinese company for Rescue 1122
LAHORE:
The Lahore High Court on Monday annulled a government contract approving the purchase of 112 ambulances from a Chinese company for Rescue 1122, the emergency service. Justice Ayesha A Malik directed the Punjab government to award the contract afresh after fulfilling all requirements under rules of procurement. The court had earlier issued a stay order against the purchase and reserved its verdict. The judge issued the order on a writ petition filed by Muhammad Shahid. The petitioner had submitted that a technical bid evaluation committee of the Punjab Rescue Service had objected to the purchase of ambulances from a Chinese company but the government had gone ahead and allocated Rs490 million for the purpose.
