Surplus generation: Lucky Cement starts powering HESCO

KARACHI: Lucky Cement Limited, Pakistan’s largest cement producer, announced on Monday that in pursuance of electricity supply agreement signed between Lucky Cement and Hyderabad Electric Supply Company Limited (Hesco), Lucky Cement started dispatch of 20 megawatts (MW) per hour of electric supply to Hesco as per terms of agreement. The company disclosed in April 2012 that it will start supplying electricity to Hesco. Lucky Cement has power generation units at its production facilities in Karachi and Pezu, capable of producing around 175MW of electricity. The company also was in talks with the Peshawar Electric Supply Company to sell 15-20MW of electricity which could help mitigate the power crisis in Lakki Marwat and Dera Ismail Khan.
