Crossfire: Two dead, one wounded

A taxi driver, Abid, of the same village tried to intervene but got caught in the fire and died on the spot

HARIPUR: Two men were killed while another was wounded when the police opened fire in Tofkiyan village some 32 kilometres from here on Friday. According to Khanpur police, Zohaib Khan and Sharif Khan had a dispute at a snooker club and opened fire at each other. A taxi driver, Abid, of the same village tried to intervene but got caught in the fire and died on the spot, according to the police. He died from Sharif’s bullet, police quoted witnesses as saying. When they raided Sharif’s house, he opened fire at them, wounding Additional SHO Ishtiaq Khan. The police fired back. Sharif was hit by a bullet and died on the spot. Later, Sharif’s relatives accused the police of “murdering” him and demanded action against the culprits.
