Constructive talks between Pakistan, ISAF: ISPR
In a joint statement released by the Inter-Services Public Relation (ISPR) on the meeting between Commander of the International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) General John Allen and Pakistan’s Chief of Army Staff General Ashfaq Parvez Kayani earlier in the week, said all sides further discussed the mutual progress made to eliminate terrorism, combat extremism and ensuring that the territory of both Pakistan and Afghanistan are not used as safe havens to launch cross-border attacks.
The commanders also discussed current operational realities.
"This visit helped advance our efforts to achieve the regional stability. Additionally, the meeting provided us perfect opportunity to refocus our attention on our continuing efforts to eliminate the corrosive effects of extremists operating on both sides of the border" Allen was quoted as saying in the release.
Allen had traveled to Islamabad on June 27, 2012 in the backdrop to a deadly cross-border raid by over 100 Taliban militants, attacking a Pakistani patrol. The military claimed that at least 14 militants were killed in the attack, but lost 14 soldiers, who were abducted and later killed.

Always $$$$$$$$$$ do have much more attractions and magnetic powers for/in the eyes of Pakistani corrupt,beggars,slaves and conscienceless leaders rather than humanity,honor,grace,dignity,self-respect,sovereignty and self-reliance.This is why this is going to happened sooner or later.
These things would be settled before Putin shows up in Pakistan to stir the pot a little more. The best strategy for Pakistan is to play a low key defense against an angry sole super power. Let's allow them to withdraw in orderly fashion.
Whatever statements come after these kinds of meetings, infect the dirty game is on for better utilization of terror groups. These terror groups are professionals and are heavily funded by America in order to kill as much as Pakistani troops and organize terror activities. These terror groups are using the cover of Taliban and Islam. Our forces are required to minimize response and reaction time, and are required to go for hunt and hit back policy rather than being defensive all the times.
I think the item or noun "Joint" is not serious enough for military collaboration.
Pak generals actually do not need empty words of apology. They want cash and lots of it. Their lifestyle and standard of living has been affected by the aid cut off. Not much time left before the US leaves the area, so let us pick up all the low hanging fruits ASAP.
ummm.....i can smell the US gravy...ummmm. It will be a real shame if the army gave into US demand now, after spilling of blood at salala and defying the US for so long. The army will lose any respect it had left after the abbottabad.
@F Robinson: Sir pls pay heed to Mr Malik, the (suspended) Interior Minister and now the Adviser on Interior Affairs to the Pakistani PM. He has repeatedly said that there are no terrorists in Pakistan. That sir, is the end of the matter.
These two old war horses knew going into the meeting that nothing earth shaking was going to happen. Pakistan isn't going to go after the Haqqani and the American's aren't going to devote extra ordinary effort to tract down a 100 anti Pakistani militants roaming around Afghanistan.
British PM David Cameron said that “Pakistan should not promote export of terror.” Then he defended his statement by saying that he “has a duty to tell the truth. German chancellor Angela Merkel for the first time sent a strong message to Pakistan saying that Islamabad cannot use state sponsored terror as a means to any end. Shedding the niceties of protocol, the President of France described Pakistan the melting pot of state sponsored terror. Afghan President Karzai said that the terrorists are operating from sanctuaries in Pakistan with Pakistani protection. Pakistan 'epicenter' of world terrorism, said Admiral Mike Mullen, outgoing Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff.
Lets face facts here ! This is a charade, nothing more ! As for ISPR , its credibility is questionable at best of times ! The bluff has been called by Pakistan and it has not delivered no retturns, nor there will be one forthcoming, as its obvious from the contents , that no Apologises were discussed here ! The only solution is to negotiate the supply line ! nothing more ! In regards to Border incussions , well Pakistan should have thought of them long time back !
Why is the Pakistani reaction so muted when such attacks happen from accross the border ???
The plot thickens. The US is using the same mujahideen tactics against Pakistan as it did against the USSR. And the drone strikes keep the pot boiling. Its very interesting to see how will the Pakistani state react. Will it try using military force to quell the insurgents as did the USSR (we know what the result was in that case), or will it examine the root causes of the insurgency and rectify them. This challenge will force the state to either grow up very fast, to correct its many mistakes and to act maturely (ensuring Pakistan's future viability and success), or, it will rapidly destroy it.
This is also the time to ponder over the US military's overseas activities and what Pakistan should do about it (alliances, solo action, a combination etc). For simply attacking the fingers while leaving the rest of the body intact is rarely a successful strategy.
hope they get a chance to also discuss comments made by US on the other side of the borders.
"Current Operational Realities" ? Is that anathor meaningless phrase like "Doctrine of necessity", Supreme national interest" etc ?
Pak army should accept the joint operation offer.
Just when we think that the army is finally standing its ground we hear news of them cozying up with the enemy. I do not have any hope left for our country.
A change in the tone of ISPR! Finally Pakistan is accepting its mistakes of over reacting without much leverage. Get real and a bird in hand is better than two in bush. Pakistan needs money and lots of it and soon. Beggars cannot be the choosers.
