Contempt of court: SC directs Riaz to stay in Pakistan, appear for hearings
The court took notice of the June 12 news conference during which Riaz hurled serious allegations against Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry and his son Arsalan Iftikhar.
Dr Basit prayed before the three-member bench, headed by Jusice Shakirullah Jan, that Riaz, due to his health conditions, could not appear in the court for the hearing and that he should be allowed to go out of the country for medical treatment.
The petitioner, Arshad Gujjar, who had filed an application in the court to place Riaz on Exit Control List (ECL), argued that if he is allowed to move out of the country, chances are that he would not come back.
The judicial bench declined Dr Basit’s request and directed Riaz to appear before the court for the hearing of his case.
Dr Basit was told that if he wanted, he could also present evidence related to the Arsalan Iftikhar case.
A suo motu notice was taken against Dr Iftikhar and Riaz, following media reports that Iftikhar had received between Rs300 and Rs400 million from Riaz to influence judicial proceedings.
The hearing was adjourned till July 4, 2012.

"Health is Wealth", A great Quote which we can use at the moment because if someone is going somewhere for the better treatment so no one is allowed to raise fingers on it because no one can face a contempt without Health.
If someone is sick he/she should be allowed to move anywhere for the treatments.

The court should first decide Arsalan Vs Riaz Malik case before it undertake other cases which are indirectly linked to the same party. Most of these cases are to keep pressure on Malik Riaz to keep away from the main case or succumb to pressure. Arshad Gujjar, who had filed an application in the court to place Riaz on Exit Control List (ECL), is not affected by the case, but these people crop up as judicial goons for putting pressure on behalf of the alleged culprits.

malik riaz is restricted to stay in pakistan, as he is involved in contempt case, and in these matters the court has discretionary power, either to direct him to appear on each and every date of hearing or his appearance can be exempted. Logically Arslan is not involved in this kind of matter therefore it can be safely said that court proceedings are biased. But the Govt.of pakistan can put the name of arsalan on ECL, or the investigating agency can also make a request for....
PCO Chief Justice is a burden on nation from the day of his appointment as CJ. I will request him to resign in the interest of people, democracy. And to focus his own son's corruption activity. How he can change the society in 6-7 comming months time, as he has failed to make Arslan an honest & law abiding person in 30 years.
Unfortunately the country has useless institutions including parliament, SC, presidency. Just keep doing sessions wasting nations tax resources.
Have we ever heared any case in Supreme Court which benefit people of Pakistan? Every day there is a constitutional or so called Suo-Motto cases are being heard which do not have any impact on the life of the people. I think there is something wrong going-on in Supreme Court now. What about Electricity, Water & Gas shortages in Pakistan? Have we heard any Suo-Motto on that or at least a Suo-Motto to ask where is the actual problem lies? But i think it will involve so called "Khadim-e-Alla"

Why Malik Riaz is not allowed to travel abroad...he may show some ugly faces in video tapes bargaining job.....and some faces having free joyride and expensive hard drinks with white beauties in obscene conditions. He therefore must be silenced. Is there a Stalin around....??
I think Dr. Arsalan is allowed to travel anywhere in the world cause he has not confessed to taking bribes. Also accusing some one of some thing doesnt automatically make that person guilty. He will remain innocent till proven guilty and for the Mr. Riaz need to submit the evidences he keeps referring to but never shows to the court. Also why do we only worry about taxpayers money when our only functional court says or does some thing. why do we not scream and yell when our ex PM went for numerous trip with a circus 80 people along with him. you are right in saying we are loony cause we let such goons get away with what ever crap they want to pull and then actually stand up and defend them against our judiciary.
Supreme Court is doing well, and follow due course of legal proceedings.
It is high time the SC should stop behaving like a Political Party headed by CJ.
It probably would have went over better if they picked a different reason than medical. Only so many people can do that in a such a short amount of time, even to the most dense of people. Though it'll end up harming the people who really do have valid need to do it in the long such, such is the consequences of liars exploiting positive things. Though I'm sure Pakistan has plenty of hospitals that could use that guy's money and business.
I do not want my Tax Money to be spent on such useless contempt cases. I can vote against the government if they try to rob me of my tax money, what can I do if the Supreme Court is robbing me?
@AA: There is no active case against Arslan and there is Investigation going on for him so kindly get the facts in order before commenting on rules of the business

How can court ever allow the defence to present documentary (undeniable) evidence against its chief and his siblings. They care only for its "contempt", no matter who and how the rest of country is dis-graced.
But Doctor Arsalan is free to move anywhere in the world, after all he is Chaudhry Iftikhar's son.
What was the purpose of this hearing???? Why is tax-payers money being squandered by SC judges on useless hearings that look more like a Civil Judge's Court than the SC. It is the SC that gave Riaz malik 7 days to arrange for a lawyer instead of 10 days, which he requested and was refused, and now that he has a lawyer no in-depth proceedings have transpired. Our SC Judges are as looney as the rest of the public. More bluster than actual case hearings and writing verdicts. They should look at the Indian SC or the Appelate Crown Courts in the UK and learn something on how to deliver justice.
