According to details, the Jaffar Express travelling from Rawalpindi to Quetta, had stopped at the Sibi station, platform number two when a blast ripped through one of its railcars.
The DS railways Faiz Bugti said that the blast took place when some passengers from the train thronged a stall selling food stuff near the platform.
Razaul Rehman, Express News Quetta Bureau chief said that the bomb had been planted under a bench and as the people approached the stall it was detonated, possibly by a remote control.
Express News correspondent Akram Bangalzai reported that rescue work is under way. Police, levies and Frontier Corps forces have reached the location and set up a security cordon.
He added that many among the injured were religious scholars while at least two children had been reported dead. The casualties are expected to rise since some of the injured are in a critical condition.
The dead and injured were being shifted to the District Headquarters Hospital Sibi. Deputy Commissioner Shahid Saleem Qureshi has declared an emergency in the hospital.
"The dead include a railway police constable and a child, aged six or seven," Saleem told AFP.
Rescue workers and ambulances have been dispatched to the site.
Bangalzai added that the powerful blast had been heard throughout the city.
No one has yet claimed responsibility for the attack.
Jaffar Express was due to have reached the station at 4pm, had arrived at 11pm. Bugti said the train has been allowed to continue the four hour journey to the Quetta station.

@Shilpa:
First and foremost, your entire post is off-topic, laced with ignorance, and frankly despicable.
'Most racist nationality' - LOL, let's just assume this asinine phrase actually made sense, can you really apply that to any nation before Hindustan? A land where the caste system is flourishing and religious riots are part of the cultural fabric? This is almost like a Hindustani mocking another country for poverty. Don't sling mud when you're standing in the largest sewer of them all.

@saeed: Education is the key. There is a distinct lack of it in Pakistan.
@Monster, butt jee, Hasan, saeed
Wonder why you guys didn't mention US and Israeli involvement along with Indian too? Historically all 3 take the flak for all Pak's ills - Pakistanis were blaming India when your cricketers got caught Spot Fixing saying ICC Leadership was Indian so it was an Indian conspiracy - they probably left Israel and the US out of that one at least since both these nations do not play cricket.
saeed - so Pakistan does not have any small and dark people? An ignorant, racist comment from an ignorant, racist nationality. I say nationality and not person as this isn't the first time I've read such comments from Pakistanis.
You guys must be blaming India if your pickles go bad at home!
May their souls rest in peace...Ameen.........& terrorist must be dealth with iron hand either they are BLA or TTP.....
same situation in gilgit baltistan, where people are being slaughtered and pakistani government and leaders take no notice of killings, they are loyal to pakistan but pakistani government pays less attention towards them i am afraid gilgit baltistan will be next. balochi people were loyal once and now they have their agenda which is free balochistan.
if baby is tiny and dark we blame india
Where is the proof? LOL
I just went through your website's moderation policy so I wanted to report a couple of comments that clearly violate at least the first two points of your moderation policy.
RE: "even if a baby is born in pakistan, the pakistanis blame the Indians. LOL"
A comment of a gleeful person unabashedly having a "LOL" moment at the news of death of people? Is not such a comment shameful and revolting?
This comment of "Shyam Sandeem," at the very least, doesn't deserve to appear on this page. Why does the Express Tribune feel obliged to entertain trolls at all, let alone on a grim topic like this? Seven people have died. Thirty got injured. And many of the comments I see on this page are the usual over-the-top ones bashing "failed state" and other holier-than-thou diatribes. At least the usual chest-thumping and point scoring and pontification can take a backseat when there is such a tragic loss of life. .
Also 'Hasan's' comment... I ask you? First, it goes without saying that a comment that is screaming of agenda violates your moderation policy. Even more importantly, is not this comment unequivocally glorifying violence and even celebrating an outlawed ruthless group? And shamelessly doing that at the time when people have died and been wounded? We all know what political violence is called and there is absolutely no reason why anyone should justify o rcondone it. Or why we should entertain trolls who condone violence Absolutely none.
PS: I just noticed that you removed "failed state" from another sickening comment. Kudos for that!
Like I have been stating for so long, send in the ISI assasins to wherever the monsters are hiding, from Delhi to London. Whocares if the world condemns the action; it will last for a week top and then level off. ISI is a lot more capable than MOSSAD and if they can do it, so can it! It's time for Pakistan to stop being humane for a while; sometimes civilized nations have to take inappropriate actions.
@butt jee: Though Pakistan has not produced any proof of Indian and US involvement in Baluchistan, I believe what you are saying. What should Pakistan do? Address the route causes. Stop double dealing with USA (like earlier acts of protecting OBL and the continued acts of protecting Haqqani Groups and possibly Zawahiri), stop sponsoring terrorism in India, investigate and follow up properly and earnestly on the Mumbai attacks, and bring to justice the State and Non-State actors involved. It may surprise Pakistan that India and USA may also be waiting for another Pakistan State or Non-State sponsored terror act in India or elsewhere, so that they can act decisively. Be it USA or KSA or India, no one is prepared to listen what Pakistan has to Say. Only way out for Pakistan is to come out clean, carry good intentions for all, and clean up the mess.
@Vikas:
Well approximately one-third of your country is desperate to break away, so it seems you guy would know more than most about that.
Hasan
@jj: Who is Mir Qasim?
@Jim Jones, please don't get exaggerate, I don't blame everything on india but given the history of indian extremists blowing up trains and indian support for BLA there is a big possibility they were behind this attack.
There are trains in Balochistan?
@butt jee Now it hurts, hunh? Aren't pak based actors using those "coins" already against their neighbors?
I could expect soon Pakistani politicians and few blind people will argue that India is responsible for the corruption in their country, and will never its their own brainwashed people against them. And the politicians have no other way except playing a blame game against all other countries. They desperately argue that they are the only honest person found in the world and all others are backstabers
You reap what you sow
@Jim Jones: We are not blaming Indians for every thing as you have said. We are blaming them only for the unrest in Baluchistan and if you permit I may add that Indians duly facilitated by US are involved in terrorist acts in Baluchistan. Indians have to realize that Pakistan also has adequate ability to pay them in the same coins may be at an appropriate time.
@Jim Jones: Our country is not fail there are MIR JAFFER and MIR QASIM who works for their INTREST and forget for whome they r working...PAKISTAN ZINDABAD.
This madness has to stop.
even if a baby is born in pakistan, the pakistanis blame the Indians. LOL
@Monster: BLA are freedom fighters.. respect them... Dont forget the promise made to these people by founders of this country , and how they were cheated and looted. Shame you are ignorant about your own history.
Lack of security and vigilance cause such incidents.
There is a separate police and it is called as "Railway Police".
What were the Railway Police Officials doing when the terrorists planted the bomb?
On each such incident and deaths of the people, I can only say "May Al-Mighty Allah rest their souls in peace. Ameen".
Looks like a work of BLA terrorists with the help of indian terrorists known for blowing trains.
