LAHORE:

A petition has been filed in the high court, seeking postponement of the Combined Competitive Examination held by the Punjab Public Service Commission because of the high temperatures and incessant power outages.

Petitioner Rashed Saeed, through his counsel Khwaja Tariq Sohail, submitted that the Punjab Public Service Commission had, in February, invited applications from interested candidates for 85 vacant posts in grade 17. About 35,000 candidates applied. Being one of the applicants, he said, he was expecting that the PPSC would schedule the exams in “suitable” weather. He said the commission has acted in an “irresponsible manner” by scheduling the exams between July 6 and July 17.

Members of the commission must have noticed, he said, that the people are miserable because of unannounced and hours-long load shedding. He said many candidates had requested the commission to postpone the examination but it had not done so. He prayed that the court direct the commission to postpone the exams for a couple of months.
