Sindh Minister for Law and Prisons Ayaz Soomro said, “By releasing the fishermen, Pakistan intended on maintaining friendlier ties with India. We hope India will soon release Pakistani fishermen as well.”
According to jail officials, 131 more fishermen are still imprisoned at Landhi Jail.
The released prisoners will be sent to India through a bus from the route of Wagah Border on Thursday. They were also provided with necessary items by the officials.
Upon their release, Indian fishermen were happy that they will be joining their families very soon.
“We cannot express in words how delighted we are. Pakistan has taken a great initiative, India should also soon release Pakistani fishermen,” one of the fishermen was quoted as saying.
While speaking to the media, fishermen stated that they were provided with almost every necessary item, and were encouraged to practice their religions as well.
