During raid at RCB, police officials thrashed

RAWALPINDI:

More famous for dishing it out, Punjab police officials got a taste of their own medicine when Rawalpindi Cantonment Board (RCB) staff thrashed them on Monday for conducting a raid at their office to arrest four employees.

Sub Inspector Manzoor and four constables of RA Bazaar police contacted senior RCB officials at the office to arrest four men accused in a criminal case for injuring a person during an anti-encroachment drive.

Things went awry during the raid after the  police officials were beaten up.

RCB Chief Executive Officer Rana Manzoor Khan called police high-ups and complained against the excesses of RA Bazaar police. DSP Muhammad Sohaib negotiated with Khan to resolve the issue.

A police officer, whose face was left swollen by punches and kicks delivered by the RCB staff, confirmed the incident.

Khan, when contacted, said that the applicant’s medico-legal report (MLR) was false and he had injured himself to implicate the RCB staff in the case.

He said a magistrate has directed the police and District Headquarter Hospital medical superintendent to form a medical board to re-examine the complainant and prepare a new MLR to solve the case.

RA Bazaar SHO Raja Musaddaq could not be contacted for comment. No FIR had been registered against RCB staff till this story was filed.

The RCB Enforcement Cell had faced stiff resistance from locals in an anti-encroachment operation during which locals sustained injuries in a scuffle with RCB officials.

Earlier, Malik Hussain had filed a case with the RA Bazaar police against RCB Enforcement Department officials Fiaz Khan, Shoaib Mehmood, Nisar and Bilal for injuring him during an operation against illegally-constructed shops on Range Road last month.
