Drive by shooting: Sub-inspector, constable shot dead

The assailants managed to escape.

KARACHI: A police sub-inspector and constable were gunned down in drive-by shooting late on Sunday night.

Police officials said that at least two armed men riding a motorcycle opened fire on a police mobile van positioned at Adam Town near Nagan Chowrangi, resultantly, sub-inspector Wazir Ali and constable Rashid were injured. The assailants managed to escape. The injured were taken to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital where doctors pronounced them dead. According to initial investigation, on-duty police officer, sub-inspector Mohammad Altaf said that a mobile unit of four policemen was on routine snap checking and the incident took place when they tried to stop two men riding a motorcycle, who escaped after opening indiscriminate fire at the police. The other two policemen of the unit remained unhurt in the attack, Altaf said.
