Safer communication: Building the capacities of AJK journalists

MIRPUR:

To raise awareness among journalists about safety of their computerised data, a training workshop was held at a local hotel in Mirpur on Sunday.

The two-day workshop, titled “Safety Clinic for Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) Journalists”, was aimed at raising awareness among both the freelance and working journalists about ways to protect their data, especially when being communicated over the internet.

At least 28 journalists affiliated with the national print and electronic media including the AJK State Press participated in the workshop, which was organised by Intermedia, a non-governmental organisation.

Intermedia Project Coordinator Naveed Asghar said the broad-based plan of the course was to boost the professional skills of the media men working in the remote and far-flung areas like AJK. He apprised the participants about the importance of adopting privacy policies and mentioned five software applications which journalists can use for the purpose.  He informed the participants of ways to create strong passwords and to protect their data on social networking websites.

By the end, Mirpur Senior Superintendent of Police Chaudhry Munir Hussain, Presss Secretary to AJK Prime Minister Saffar Mughal and Jammu and Kashmir Journalists Organization President Hafiz Maqsood gave away certificates of merit to the participants.
