LUMS hosted the convocation at the Syed Martrib Ali Sports Complex, attended by 713 students of the Class of 2012, in what is being termed by the institute as the largest convocation in its history. As many as 225 students were awarded their Master's degrees in various disciplines including Economics, Computer Science, Computer Engineering and Business Administration.
With students asked recognise the efforts of their parents and teachers, the venue echoed with a round of applause as graduating students rose to give a standing ovation on the request of the vice chancellor. "Today we give you back the future of Pakistan and your amaanat," said Dr. Najam while addressing the gathering.

"As a nation we must dream and we must dream big," said Academy award winning documentary filmmaker Sharmeen Obaid Chinoy while speaking to the graduating students. Asking students to reflect on the ‘dreams’ of their founding forefathers, Chinoy advised the students to follow their dreams.

@Anam: Thanks for your reply Anam, Rs 3 Million - equals to 4 MBA students fee right ?
@Bittu:
I am a graduate from the 2012 class of LUMS and i do encourage you to look at the stats please. LUMS gave 3 million rupees of aid to students belonging from under-privileged backgrounds which precisely makes 1 out of the 3 students studying at LUMS to be given financial assistance in varying amounts. LUMS NOP program i,e. the national outreach program inducts ONLY those students which cannot afford to pay the tuition fee.
As far as the disparity between matric Fsc / O & Alevels is concerned, no such thing exists. I am a witness to it. Being amongst the first batch of School of science and engineering i can confidently say that a rather large proportion of my batch mates had done their Fsc and in fact did pretty well. refer to the LUMS official website for more detailed statistics: www.lums.edu.pk
LUMS is the pride of South Asia! We should be thankful that such a premier institute is located in Pakistan.
how many scholarships does LUMS aim to offer to under-priviliged background students ? educationg the children of Elites and making them more elite can not make the whole nation great , I know LUMS offer a few infact very few scholarships, but that should be equal to 50% from people coming from urdu-medium/ Matric back gorund, else it wil lremain a heav for riches and dream for masses. Love you LUMS
The convocation was amazing! Dr Adil Najam and Miss Sharmeen Obaid Chinoy made our day! even though it was 44 degrees outside :P
It was a brilliant convocation indeed.
Unfortunately with the glut of LUMS grads in the market in last couple of years they will hve to dream as there nothing else to do.
LUMS, Adil Najam, Sharmeen Chinoy, Babar Ali. You all make us feel so proud to be Pakistanis today. Thank you.
It was the moment of great honor to be one of those fortunates who received their MBA degrees today. Every moment of 2012 Convocation was prestige that made us fall in love with LUMS even more. Cheering voices of students, claps of proud parents and teachers' support made this day a memorable one. Congrats Batch 2012. We earned it.
We're so proud of this prestigious institution in Pakistan. Education is the only solutions to all problems of this country.
Express tribune seems to be a LUMS / PTI newsletter
I was encouraged to think big too and I not only thought big but also made it big. I blew the biggest balloon ever seen in Faisalabad. It was over 12-feet in diameter and I could only do it because I thought big. I encourage my fellow Pakistanis too to think big - even bigger than 12 feet.
I followed this on social media and some on their webcast. It was amazing. So so wanted to be there. Ever since Dr. Naajam became VC he has given us so much hope and LUMS is symbol of that hope. When everything in Pakistan is falling away here is the great place that makes me proud of Pakistan and Pakistanis. Thanks you LUMS.
