HARIPUR: United against the harassment and discrimination they face in the society, transgender persons from across the country formed the Haripur chapter of the All Pakistan Shemale Association on Wednesday. The All Pakistan Shemale Association President Almas Boby nominated Saima alias Shaukat as district president of the Haripur Shemale Association. Bobby went on discussing the problems their community was exposed to. She and other participants specifically criticised the police “always remaining harsh and discriminative” towards them.  She added that following the landmark judgment of Supreme Court, transgender persons have been acknowledged as the third sex. She said that now all transgender persons now have identity cards under the law. She also lauded the verdict handed down by Chief Justice of Pakistan Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry for the rights of transgender persons.

At the end, the community celebrated the nomination of the Haripur Shemale Association president with music and dance.

No matter wether our religion supports transgenders or not, as educated people, we must RESPECT everyone and their decisions. Who are we to judge and criticize?
