Former Pakistan coach Mohsin Khan has criticised current coach Dav Whatmore, holding him responsible for ‘hurting the team’s progress and balance’ before adding that the team would have shown better results if he was allowed to continue.
Mohsin had an impressive short stint as coach which included Test-series wins over Sri Lanka, Bangladesh and a whitewash of England in the UAE. However, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) decided against appointing him on a full-time basis and, instead, chose Dav Whatmore as the head coach. Mohsin, however, said that the decision to replace him is not going in the team’s favour.
“The team’s progress has suffered immensely,” Mohsin told The Express Tribune. “It pains me to see the players, who had the killer instinct, fighting spirit and motivation, performing in such a way. Whatmore has disturbed the balance and the team combination with flawed selection and decisions.
“I can say with confidence that if I had continued, results would have been better because I know the players. They are not being utilised properly.”
Mohsin also launched an attack on those who appointed the foreign coach.
“There are some people who jolted Pakistan’s ascent by making the unnecessary change. Such people do not serve the country but only their vested interest. Foreign coaches have never served Pakistan well. Richard Pybus and Bob Woolmer are examples. We won the 1992 World Cup and 2009 World Twenty20 with a local at the helm. The PCB said that Whatmore’s a professional coach. A teacher doesn’t need time to teach students and should get his job done straight away, just like I did.”
‘PCB chief was misinformed about me’
The PCB Chairman Zaka Ashraf said that the board repeatedly attempted to contact Mohsin but the former coach never responded. Mohsin, however, said that Ashraf was misinformed and misguided by PCB officials. “Nobody contacted me. There’s no issue of communication nowadays. The chairman must take action against these officials.”

its all about money , no sportsman spirit or professionalism left
@S.F.Ali: For the time being face Sri Lankans in Tests.
Please mind your own work Mohsin......just very typical of you!
Whatmore has solid international credentials in charge of a bunch of talented but egoistic players. As a coach, you can safely assume he is bringing all his experience to bear. Its the players who have to respond.
I guess somebody has to say it - whatmore do you want him to do?
Mohsin Khan taking credit of all the good work Waqar Younis had done. Very soon we will hear Waqar been appointed as bowling coach of Australia. Mohsin Khan should have gone back to his role as chief selector if he really wished to serve Pakistan Cricket. I mean do what you are good at, the problem comes when I replaces WE in our statements.
When the students of the class are trying their best to fail an exam, no teacher in the world can make them pass it. #inyourfaceteammisbah
aray don't fight guys... just see we will win WC T20 InshaALLAH!!
oh comeon Mohsin Khan - please don't badmouth Woolmer. The whole team loved him so did most of the people of Pakistan.
RIP coach Woolmer. He gave his life for Pakistan cricket.
Well to be realistic mohsin khan is not a qualified coach, the matches won by Pakistan whilst mohsin khan was coach was in UAE, which has slow pitches and is favourable to Pakistani players on the other hand Dav whatmore is a highly respectable coach and his credentials are appreciated by well known coaches the foundation and winning momentum of Pakistan team was set by waqar younis as being a well known bowler he addressed those bowling weaknesses in Pakistan team, secondly a coach can only buff up the skills already present in the players he cannot teach them how to play, therefore he urged the PCB to arrange for a batting coach to address and rectify those weaknesses in Pakistan batting line up, as their batting technique is wrong, as of you look at great batsmen like Sachin, sangakarra, amla, kallis they all know how to play different sort of bowlers and techniques to tackle types of varied bowling but with Pakistani batsmen they lack the edge and the technique therefore despite playing seven specialist batsmen in the line up thy can never chase or post a target above 250 in most of the matches, if you look at the current series vs srilanka our bowlers have suffered and their economy rate has been below par the reason is lack of guidance from a bowling coach therefore dav whatmore requested to work only with two local bowling coaches that is waqar and Wasim if they are willing to take the role, or he wanted to work with a foreign coach my opinion is give dav whatmore some time to find the right balance in the team and then use specialist coaches to buff the talent already available in the squad.
whatmore not batting, catching or bowling. His job was to find the best talent and give them a chance. look at what he did we saw the brilliant sami and horrible sami, we saw match winner tanvir and horrible tanvir, brilliant malik and no so. i agree with coach whatmore, he was the best coach around and we hired him at a piitance of a salary. if they do what he tells to do this team would be a champion. imran farhar zindabad, he was our best batsman in one day series. we shouldn't hang him bc he is related a selector. he was brilliant in the field and with the bat.
I agree - but Dav must be given a chance we cannot just start the blame game
lol and there is NO mention of Pakistan's white wash by the hands of average English ODI side by 4-0 under this very same coach.Yeah right, he can get accumulate brownie points now. Typical Pakistani.
Bob woolmer was a legend and we did well under him.. Richard Pybus maybe a fail.. but mohsin shouldnt forget the thrashing we got in the one day series against england..
Bob Woolmer wasn't a good coach? Geez.. he was the best coach we've ever had - that guy died trying to improve this team. As for his world cup comments, remember how we got the finals each time? A good coach wouldn't have caused that; it was the player's spirit and talent that got us our two world cups
Very modest Mohsin sb! The team lost the one day series and t20s under you. Give Whatmore time
Nice one Mohsin Khan, taking credit for the excellent foundations Waqar Younis's layed down. How can you judge a coach after 2 assignments, one of which was victorious Asian Cup campaign?
