Kohistan video: SC disposes of case, rules girls are alive
A suo motu notice was taken on media reports of a Kohistan Jirga that had ‘condemned’ to death four girls for defying strict tribal custom.
A report of a judicial officer was presented before a three-member bench, headed by Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry. The report stated that media reports about the killings were bogus and that the girls were alive.
Social Worker Dr Farzana Bari said that she still had some “reservations”. She said that the girls presented before them did not resemble the girls seen in the video.
Justice Jawad S Khwaja said that the statement given by Muhammad Afzal, brother of two men who filmed the video, had been proven untrue.
Afzal’s brother Bin Yasir and Gul Nazar, had allegedly made the film and uploaded it on a video sharing site.

Justice is not only done but is seen to be done. By not producing girls in the Court despite CJP’s ORDER Justice was not seen. Black mark onSCP.
Right - no-one has seen 3 of the girls. But the villagers claimed that they are alive - so they must be alive - right?
@captain niatpac: Again, living in denial. Are the videos of beheadings fake too, and videos of our soldiers getting shot and hacked?
This Supreme Court is only interested in going after the left-leaning elements, e.g., PPP, Haqqani, Gilani, etc. All of its judgements have given relief to the right-wingers, e.g., PTI, PML-N, Javed Hashmi, Maulana Abdul Aziz, Malik Ishaq, etc. Besides, the court is sitting idle on the Bhutto case as well as the Asghar Khan case, and the Arsalan Iftikhar case has been shrugged aside. There is no limit to the bias the court in showing but not many people are noticing.
@Uzair Javaid: How was it a scam? The girls still have not been produced before the SC, and even the activist to went to ascertain their fate have been unable to conclusively verify the identity of the two out of the five girls they've met. This whole affair seems to be a repeat of swat flogging video which was also branded a conspiracy and swept under the rug. Living in denial has become a national pastime of ours.
What a shame?! SC after realizing the limitations of it's power decided to wash off the ill conceived Suo Motu! This SC is powerless in front of Jihadis and Khakis. Whatever power SC has can only be directed against the civilian government!
