The former husband of renowned Pashto singer Ghazala Javed has been accused of murdering her as well as her father.
Ghazala was gunned down by unidentified gunmen outside a beauty parlour in Dabagari, Peshawar the previous day. She was laid to rest alongside her father amid tears in their hometown in Mingora on Tuesday.
The lone survivor of the attack, Ghazala’s younger sister Farhat, has filed a First Information Report (FIR) with the police accusing her sister’s ex-husband Jehangir and his two friends Salam and Naseem of murdering her sister and her father. She told the police that Ghazala had a dispute with Jehangir, from whom she had sought divorce only six months after marriage.
She claimed that Jehangir blamed her father for the divorce, whom he had paid Rs10 million as customary compensation for marriage. She added that Ghazala had stopped singing after her marriage and her father had been urging her to resume her career.
Superintendent of Police City Asif Iqbal said that a number of raids have been conducted to nab the accused men; however, no arrests have been made so far.
The investigation officer, requesting to remain anonymous, confirmed that “it is not a blind murder, but an outcome of a personal enmity”. He added that it was a “pre-planned and well-coordinated” murder conducted by hired professional killers.
He said Ghazala was in Peshawar to record songs for a new Pushto film and was visiting a beauty parlour for pre-show preparations when they were intercepted by armed men on motorbikes. He said the men had complete information about their movement and had been waiting for them at the saloon.
Ghazala has over 100 hit songs to her credit in her short singing career.

sad!
Husband must be a disbeliever gunned down a beautiful blessing.
very very sad
She had natural talents and a brief time to prove herself. It is sad to see that talent is lost and people lost a beautiful voice. Those who committed this crime should be brought to justice otherwise time has come that the remaining singer also leave the country or industry.
Very sad indeed. I hope the criminals are brought to the book.
incredible pakistan
I haven't heard her songs. But this lady is amazingly beautiful.
A rarity for a Pakistani, where fairness is always mistaken for beauty. This lady is truly beautiful.
What an awful tragedy for all, the family and for her adoring fans. Why??? Why is it that we resort to violence if two parties which to part. Why do we need to gun down the very people that we love so intensely in our lives. Sad state of Pakistan's moral decline.
