Workshop: Students learn how SMS works

Software engineering students display final year projects.

Students of Fatima Jinnah Women University (FJWU) were given a unique opportunity to learn about the methods, techniques and implementation of short message service (SMS) on Monday, said a press release issued by FJWU.


During a workshop on “GSM specification – SMS service”, students were given a detailed explanation on the mechanism behind short message delivery from one user to another.

The workshop was organised by the university’s software engineering department in collaboration with the Pakistan Engineering Council.

Guest speaker Aarsol Pvt Ltd CEO Farooq Arif explained the students that GSM specification comes under the category of mobile communication and is a third generation mobile system.

AT commands were also discussed to ensure participants can develop applications using those commands.

The workshop was followed by an interactive question and answer session, after which the participants received certificates.

Apart from that, software engineering students also displayed their final projects in computer architecture and digital signal processing, showing remote-controlled wheelchairs and cars which fascinated the audience.
