Five people, including two policemen, were injured in firing incidents in the area. Unidentified men forced shops in the vicinity of Pehlwan Goth and Rabia City to close down.
A heavy contingent of rangers and police was deployed in the area who managed to arrest two of the civilians responsible for the firing incidents. Incidences of firing continued in the area at intervals.
The body of the deceased, who was identified as Liaquat Bangash, was shifted to Jinnah Hospital where a throng of political workers assembled.
Bangash was arrested a year back by Crime Investigation Department (CID). He had more than 12 cases registered against him and had been released just a few days ago.

@Omer : Agreed!
@sick of this nonsense: im sorry but your arguments lack conviction. I'm not a big fan of MQM but as I am from Karachi, I must say it is the only party which actually works for the city.
Karachi is a city for any hard working men, women or children. Unfortunately only Mohajirs have taken advantage of it with their sheer hard work,
Islam is religion of peace. Why do these follower of this beautiful religion always find reason to kill each other ?? And they call themselves muslims ? Shame on them.
@ All anti MQM people. I don't mind you having anti MQM opinions, but you still have not answered my questions. Also, if MQM is so bad, then how come they win majority of the seats from an 18 M strong city. Let me guess your answer, they terrorize all of them to get votes. I am not denying that MQM has a militant wing, but that is a result of state machinery acting against in the 90's on made up charges Jinnahpur and operation clean up. Further, parties like PPP, PMLN, JI and ANP all used violence against MQM and urdu speaking. MQM has done what it needed to survive. All of these charges on Jinnahpur were proved to be planted. Following is the proof.

All anti MQM people, instead of going into denial you should analyze the questions and points I have given.
@Omer: totally agree. 12 may was all farce. in the 90s all target killers were all from PPP, ANP & PML-N, JUI etc. Thumbs up bro.
@Omer, Mqm is not that innocent either unite incharge collects BHatta from there area busnisses and party blame others the peace of city distroyed by ethanic politics and main actor is MQM.
@ sick of this nonsense. May 12 was when PPP, PMLN and ANP were pumping and PR to malign Musharraf and make him less popular. Deaths on may 12 were all part of that. Otherwise how come the deposed CJ's rally had guns with them? Also, you have not answered the questions how many target killings were between 2001 and 2007? And how many were there in the last 4 years and in the 90's? So should get facts right before you go "ERRRRRRRRR".
@Omer: Errrr.. wasnt 12 May in Musharaff's reign or did PPP take charge for one day? And if all other parties are responsible except MQM why is it still in the coalition government? Why does it have so many "sector incharges" in every nook of every street in the city? Not saying PPP are angels, they have allegedly supported lyari gangsters in the past but here in Karachi its a turf war mainly between ANP and MQM and ALL resort to violence.
Shahi Syed of ANP always appears on media as most vocal opponent of political violence yet on the other hand his workers are involved in heinous crimes and they hostage the city if an action is taken against them.
Here it goes again!
