Following investigations into the escape of a notorious robber from Adiala jail, the city police on Saturday arrested seven court and police officials who helped him in his jailbreak.
On June 2, two court officials, a policeman from Margalla police and four others reached Adiala jail with fake letters for release of Aashiq Hussain, the robber, involved in one of the biggest robberies of the town worth over Rs20 million.
The fake court letter, called “Robkar”, showed that Hussain was being released on bail by the court. The jail authorities only realised on Friday, the day for Hussain’s appearance in the court, that he was not in jail.
The document was examined and found to be fake. A reader of Assistant Superintendent of Jail (ASJ) filed an application with Margalla police against the seven people who submitted the document and got the robber released.
Police said Muhammad Ali, Muhammad Kaleem, Abrar Ali, Abbas Ali, Raja Nisar, Muhammad Afzal and Muhammad Ashraf were under custody and were being investigated.
Hussain, along with seven others, robbed Sardar Tanvir Illyas, owner of Centaurus, in one of the town’s biggest armed robberies, from his residence in sector F-8/4 in 2008.
