KARACHI:

Shahram Changezi is seeking a ranking boost by this year in order to be eligible for the World Snooker Championship.

Changezi was part of Pakistan’s team that won bronze in the 2010 Asian Games. He made his comeback to the national circuit after an 18-month break after a wild-card entry in the 2nd Snooker Ranking Championship.

“My good show has helped me climb to number 15 from 40 in just a single event and I’m aiming to be ranked first or second this year,” Changezi told The Express Tribune. “The aim is to represent Pakistan in the World Championship and hopefully I’ll be able to achieve that on the back of a strong show in local events.”

Changezi defeated Balochistan’s Abdul Rauf Kurd 4-3 in their Jubilee Insurance 3rd Ranking Snooker Championship at the Karachi Gymkhana yesterday while Farrukh Usman Brohi stunned Mohammad Asif 4-1. Sultan Mohammad defeated defending champion Imran Shehzad 4-2. In other matches, Asjad Iqbal beat Mohammad Yousuf 4-1 while Mohammad Sajjad defeated Abu Saim 4-2.
