Some 50 men vandalised the house of the assistant commissioner in Khanpur on Wednesday to protest against the arrest of one of their relatives. They broke the doors and windows and also took some valuable household items before leaving, police said.
City police have registered a case against eight nominated and more than 40 unidentified men under Sections 506-B, 353/186, 427/341, 324, 148/149 of the Anti Terrorism Act. Station House Officer Azhar Javed told The Express Tribune that one Malik Imran and 21 unidentified men were arrested and will be produced before an anti terrorism court on Thursday (today).
He said earlier Malik Ameen, a store keeper at the assistant commissioner’s office, was called by the AC at his office. He said when Ameen entered the office, he was inebriated. The AC then called police and handed him over to them.
He also directed the police to get the store keeper’s medical examination at tehsil headquarters quarters hospital. However, according to the medical report, he was not drunk. Some police officials, seeking anonymity, told The Express Tribune that the doctors had tampered with the report due to pressures from Ameen’s brother, a former UC-72C nazim, whose five sons have also been nominated in the FIR.
Dr Muhammad Idrees of the THQ hospital denied that the report was tampered with.
The AC was not available for comments.
