Services Hospital fire: SHO told to record petitioner’s version
The infants’ parents and other family members had to break window panes to rescue them.
LAHORE:
A judge on Wednesday directed the Shadman SHO to record the version of a petitioner who is seeking registration of a criminal negligence case against the chief minister, health secretary, and Services Hospital administration, who he said were responsible for the deaths in the nursery fire last week. Directing the SHO to proceed in accordance with law in case there was a cognizable offence, Additional District and Sessions Judge Malik Mushtaq Elahi Bingi disposed of the petition. Petitioner Nasir Hussain had submitted that Arif Nadeem (health secretary), Faisal Masood (Services Hospital principal), Rehana Malik (medical superintendent) did not reach the spot in time. The infants’ parents and other family members had to break window panes to rescue them. He said the MS had taken the incident “as lightly as a broken cup”. He added that the respondents were drawing their salaries from the exchequer and should have ensured the protection of the patients.
The petitioner said he had approached the SHO concerned to register an FIR against the respondents but the official had ignored his request.
