KARACHI:

Pakistan eye the South Asian Table Tennis Championship title with the tournament starting in Shillong on Friday.

A seven-member squad will depart for India today to take part in the tournament that features eight countries. National junior champion Salman Virk will lead the team comprising four boys and three girls who will compete in four events of the championship. Pakistan’s win in the tournament will also make them eligible for the Asian table Tennis Juniors championship in China next month.

“I’m confident that we will beat India this time,” Virk told The Express Tribune. “We have put in a lot of effort.”

Like Hockey, Pakistan's performance in Table Tennis is pathetic and has much deteriorated as they are found at the bottom table of almost all the tournaments.

If we ever want to discover new and promising talents seriously, Table Tennis must be encouraged at the grass root level in Schools and Colleges
