‘Maltreatment’: Prisoners go on hunger strike

FAISALABAD: Dozens of prisoners at the Toba Tek Singh District Jail observed a hunger strike on Sunday accusing jailers of being unfair to them. Jail’s Deputy Superintendent Saifullah Gondal told The Express Tribune that he has ordered an inquiry into the allegations. They said Assistant Superintendent Aashiq Hussian had ignored their complaints against the jail authorities. They said they would continue their hunger strike till the assistant superintendent was transferred. Relatives of some of the prisoners staged a demonstration in front of the jail saying their relatives among the inmates were harassed if jailers were not bribed.
