ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Yousaf Raza Gilani said on Monday that there was no need of sending a reference against Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry to President Asif Ali Zardari, Express News reported.

Speaking at a conference in Islamabad titled “Higher education in the Islamic world: Challenges and Opportunities,” he said that he would not like to comment on the financial impropriety case against Dr Arsalan Iftikhar in the Supreme Court.

Gilani said that the tradition of giving Nobel prizes has been continuing since 1901, but sadly, only nine Muslim scientists were able to achieve this honour.

He said that one-fourth of the world population constitutes of Muslims and that almost 50% of the world’s natural resources are under the control of Muslim states.

Gilani added that these resources could not be put to use despite the advances in the field of science and technology.

@truth detector: Just because it wasn't mentioned doesn't mean it wasn't asked. You're right that it's peculiar that it seems stated so randomly. Very peculiar. So peculiar that odds are he was either baited onto the topic, or even directly asked and it just conveniently didn't get referenced. Even if they are somehow dirty in this controversy, that would double the chances that it wasn't truly said randomly. They'd probably stay away from talking about it, if anything.

The reason why only 9 muslims won nobel prizes? Because most of the muslim countries have leaders like Gilani and Zardari.
