PESHAWAR: The decision on military operation in North Waziristan Agency will be taken in the interest of the country, Governor Barrister Masood Kausar said on Sunday.

He was speaking to the media at Lady Reading Hospital during a visit to inquire about the health of the people injured in a recent bomb blast in Gul Bela area of the city.

As many as 19 people had died and more than 30 injured in the blast targeting a bus on xx.

The governor said military operation in North Waziristan would not be launched under pressure from another country. “Military operations will not be carried out inside the country on dictation of other countries,” he said, referring to the recent demands by the United States that Pakistan take action against the Haqqani Network, which the US believes is active in the North Waziristan Agency.

Governor Kausar demanded an end to drone strikes in the Tribal Areas of the country. He said drone attacks were responsible for escalating acts of terrorism.

He regretted that the foreign countries doubted Pakistan’s intention in the War against Terror. “We (Paksitan) have suffered the most losses in this war. The world should recognise our effort instead of pointing fingers at us,” he said.

Responding to a question about Dr Shakil Afridi, he said action would be taken in his case in accordance with the laws of the country.

Earlier, the governor met the injured people admitted to the Surgical Ward, General Intensive Care Unit and the Orthopedic Ward at the LRH. He presented the injured with cash payment as compensation. He was accompanied by Additional Medical Superintendent Dr Abdur Rahim and DMS Dr Jehanzeb.

The governor directed the hospital administration to ensure that best possible treatment facilities were available to the injured.

He said such acts of terrorism would not discourage the country from its efforts promoting peace in the region. He also praised the doctors and paramedics at the LRH for their services in treating the victims of terrorism.

"The governor said military operation in North Waziristan would not be launched under pressure from another country" "The decision on military operation in North Waziristan Agency will be taken in the interest of the country," Do the Governor thinks that there is no extremism /terrorist in north Waziristan ? Or if there are terrorists we shall take military action as per our National interest (is it after their use/purpose accomplished) They are not assets but liabilities. it is always better to get rid of liabilities at the earliest.
