Bird sport: Dera Ghazi Khan hosts chirping competition

A total of 321 partridges from various areas participated in the National Partridge Chirping Competition on Saturday at Ghazi Park in Dera Ghazi Khan.


The competition was divided in three stages; 321 partridges participated in the first round, 190 partridges participated in the second round, and 13 participated in the final round.

The first stage went on for 3 hours and second for two hours and final stage for an hour.
The competition was won by Faliji from Dera Ismael Khan for chirping 242 times in an hour.

Jaam Mohammad, Faliji’s breeder, said that his partridge had rewarded his hard work.

“I gave him a diet of almonds and pistachios.”

Cheena from Jalalpur won the second position for chirping 232 times in an hour.

Moosa Khan, Cheena’s breeder, said that he was sure his partridge would win the next competition.

A partridge from Muzaffargarh won the third position for chirping 228 times an hour.

The winner was awarded Rs20,000 while the runner up was awarded Rs20,000.

Faliji was valued at Rs1.2 million and Cheena at Rs1 million in an auction after the event but both owners refused to sell them. The event was organised by local landlords; Saifullah, Muhammad Yousuf, Khalil Khan Babar and Muhammad Zaheer.

Saifullah said that he believed in promoting a healthy sporting culture in the society.
Over 3,000 people attended the event.
