“The four policemen were on two motorcycles on their routine patrol along the railway track when unknown armed men opened fire at them,” Deputy Inspector General (DIG-Operations) Qazi Wahid said.
“The slain police officials were deputed there following the request of railway officials,” another police official said.
All the four policemen were killed on the spot, while the assailants managed to escape on motorbikes.
Frontier Corps and police rushed to the spot soon after the incident and cordoned off the area. They have also launched a manhunt in the area. Security across the provincial capital was beefed up following the incident.
The deceased were taken to the Bolan Medical Hospital for autopsy, where they were identified as Constable Razar Mohammad, Constable Hafeez-ur-Rehman, Constable Sarfaraz and Constable Abdul Kareem.
The funeral prayers of policemen were offered at Police line Quetta and bodies were handed over to their relatives for burial.
Earlier, a powerful bomb detonated outside the gates of a seminary near Bank Chowk on Saryab Link Road as a ceremony for students who had memorised the Holy Quran was being held inside, killing 16 people and injuring 48 others.

@megal sana: Shame on you that you are defending killing of Punjabis in Balochistan.Blaming others for your own ignorance is the easiest thing. Savage people like you who defend killing of innocent people are the lowest ebb of ignorant soceity.
We are being looted on daily basis our gas is used for giving electricity to punjab while balochistan suffers from poverty and no industries. Whom can we blame when we ask for our share of gas?
@mir baloch: Mr Mir Baloch the people who are targeted on a daily basis in Quetta are not Balochs. My relative got killed and the only reason Police and other officials are killed because they belong from Punjab. So I think if you will use the word Pakistanis that innocent Pakistanis are getting killed because this time BLA which actually represents Balochs are on a killing spree against people of other ethnic origins then it will be better. The innocent card all the time does not work my friend. We are receiving dead bodies of engineers , doctors, police officers and teachers weekly and in the end you are playing the victim card. My uncle was a doctor and he was killed only because of ethnicity and now his dead body have arrived in Punjab so tell me who is to blame then.
May the departed souls rest in peace. The barbarious act is condenmed. But will condemnations suffice. Police should squarely stand on its feet , face the challenge and give a good account of itself. They should follow these terrorists to their holes and eliminate them. I will not agree if they they that Police is not properly armed. They have the weapons, armed cars and necessary transport, communication and intelligence. If they are not properly trained,its their own fault..
@mir baloch:
Against whom ? your own Balouch brothers (BLA) are killing them and if Army/FC hits them back or arrest them, same balouch starts chanting against FC, missing person. See only such miscreants are abducted and deposited to missing person lists for good. These innocent policemen were killed because they were deployed to protect railway line which Balouch militants love to blow it off all the time.
May their souls rest in peace.....Ameen
